The Purpose of a Warm-Up
A proper warm-up serves two main purposes: physical and mental preparation.
Physically, the goal is to prepare your body for the workout ahead, improve performance and reducing the risk of injury. It helps to gradually increase your heart rate, warm up your muscles, and increase blood flow.
Mentally, the warm-up gives you a moment to assess how you’re feeling that day. Are there any muscles or joints that feel tighter than usual? Are you focused and ready to train, or perhaps a bit more fatigued than expected? These insights allow you to adjust your approach accordingly.
Importantly, a warm-up shouldn’t drain your energy or take up too much time. It should be an efficient process that prepares you physically and mentally without overexertion.
